Dr. Jayashankar had his early schooling in Mumbai (then known as Bombay. He graduated in 1982, from the Institute of Technology, Benaras Hindu University, more famously known by its acronym IT-BHU, specializing in Electrical Engineering. JShankar obtained his Master’s (By Research) from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1991 and the PhD in 1994, from the College of Engineering, Guindy - both in Electrical Engineering.

After working in various industries, he joined the newly formed National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in 1994 as Senior Project Engineer. Having worked on several novel and prestigious projects while in NIOT , JShankar joined the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras in 2001. He is presently an Associate Professor in the Department, where he indulges in his favourite pastimes of teaching, research and playing with toys !

Dr.Jayashankar is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (USA). He has traveled widely, for technical collaboration as well as for attending Conferences and Symposia. He has recently (July 2006) visited the Institute of Ocean Energy, Saga University, Japan as a Visiting Scientist.
